Scientists play a vital role in serving communities by deepening our understanding of the world and driving advances that improve public health, safeguard the environment, enhance safety, and more. Yet recent Administration policies are placing these contributions at risk, threatening the ability of scientists in the U.S. to carry out this critical work.

Scientists are not standing by. They are stepping forward to demonstrate the profound value of their research to society, even when doing so requires skills and approaches beyond those developed in graduate training. And their voices are making an impact.

AGU Days of Action was launched to support you and the scientific community through a series of events and opportunities designed to showcase strong public support for sustained investment in Earth and space sciences while underscoring the dangers of disinvestment and the weakening of the federal science workforce.

This August we asked our community to engage with their legislators during August Recess: a time when Senators and Representatives travel back to their home states and districts to meet with constituents and hear the needs of their communities directly. Here’s what you accomplished:

• 118 phone calls to 56 different Senators and 57 different representatives
• 12 meetings in district with 14 scientists
