Hair-Raising Countdowns

Posted by Jenna Zink

Ghosts and goblins and spooks galore! This October is flying fast and so is the clock for 2017. Here are our top 4 countdowns that are sure to make the hairs rise on the back of your neck!

11 Days until Fall Meeting Early Registration Closes

Don’t miss out! There is only two weeks left to head over to the Fall Meeting website and register for our annual meeting that will take place in New Orleans this year! Registration fees includes all keynote and breakout sessions; communication, educational outreach, and career workshops; access to nonticketed events; and scientific presentations.

46 Days until the Continuing Resolution Runs Out

Congress passed a continuing resolution (CR) in early September, which funds the government through 8 December at fiscal year (FY) 2017 levels. Time is running out! If Congress fails to pass a spending bill before then, we will  face a government shutdown. Remember that there is still time for you to take action and tell Congress to pass appropriations bills that provide robust science funding!

49 Days until Fall Meeting Begins

New Orleans, Louisiana is going to be filled to the brim with scientists from around the world! Stay ahead of the game and check out the Fall Meeting Scientific Program to start scheduling your meeting! Have a passion for science policy and want to become more engaged with your local and federal legislators? The Public Affairs team is hosting several events throughout Fall Meeting that are geared toward getting AGU members involved in science policy!

3 Months until Sequestration

This year is coming to a close fast! Congress’s agreement that offered relief from sequestration is going to expire in January 2018. If Congress does not pass a budget agreement, across the board cuts for government spending will be invoked due to the Budget Control Act of 2011 (BCA). It is highly likely that most science agencies will receive funding cuts.
